How Do I Properly Screw The Strap Holes?Updated 21 days ago

The trick is to never mark the timber directly. Put a strip of low-tack painter’s masking tape where the screw goes, so pencil marks and slips land on the tape instead of your finish. Low-tack matters, because ordinary tape can lift the finish when you peel it off.

Mark the spot on the tape with a pencil, then press an indentation into it with something sharp so the drill bit cannot wander. Remove the tape and drill a pilot hole, keeping the drill as straight as you can.

The same method works for any screw on the guitar, not just strap buttons.
