What Type of Wood Is Used for the Neck Stripe (Skunk Stripe)?Updated a month ago

On some of Guitar Kit World guitar kit necks, you’ll notice a darker strip of wood running along the back of the neck—commonly known as a skunk stripe. This decorative feature also serves a practical purpose, as it covers the channel where the truss rod is installed.

For our current range of DIY guitar kits, the skunk stripe is made from engineered (synthetic) wood. This material offers excellent stability, consistency, and a clean aesthetic that complements the natural maple or mahogany tones of the neck.

While traditional skunk stripes are often made from walnut, our engineered wood option ensures consistent quality and reduces the risk of warping or uneven shrinkage over time. It also provides a smooth surface that finishes beautifully, perfect for builders who plan to stain, oil, or clear-coat their necks.
