What Size Are the Headstock Holes for Tuners on Guitar Kit World Kits?Updated 8 days ago
Most of our DIY guitar kits come with 10 mm tuner holes pre-drilled in the headstock . This is a standard size that fits most modern tuning machines.
Why This Matters
The tuner hole size determines what type of tuning machines (tuners) you can install without modification. Most aftermarket tuners from well-known brands are designed for 10 mm holes, while some vintage-style tuners use smaller sizes and may require adapter bushings.
Tuner Compatibility Guide
Here’s a general guide to tuner compatibility with our 10 mm standard headstock holes:
Fits Directly (No Mods Needed)
Grover Rotomatic tuners (modern style)
Gotoh sealed tuners
Schaller M6 tuners
Fender modern sealed tuners (used on many Strat/Tele models)
Wilkinson sealed tuners
May Require Adapter Bushings or Slight Drilling
Kluson vintage-style tuners (often use 8.5 mm–9 mm holes)
Fender “vintage” tuners (require conversion bushings to fit 10 mm holes)
Some locking tuners with oversized housings (always check specs)
