What is Stripewood (Engineered Zebrawood)?Updated 4 hours ago
Stripewood (engineered zebrawood) is our name for the striped wood that other shops sell as engineered zebrawood. It is not the zebrawood tree.
What is it made of?
The factory dyes cottonwood, a type of poplar. Then it glues and presses the wood in layers with heat and pressure, so it looks striped. Our factory has confirmed this in writing.
Is it resin-stabilized?
No. No resin is used. It is wood and glue only.
Is a Stripewood fretboard the same material?
Yes. On kits where the fretboard is Stripewood, it is made the same way as the body: dyed poplar, glued and pressed in layers, no resin.
Is it heavy?
Stripewood is denser than basswood or mahogany. See Estimated Weight and Packaging Dimensions.
Which kits use it?
See all Stripewood (engineered zebrawood) guitar kits and our guide Stripewood (Engineered Zebrawood) DIY Guitar Kits.
